The Changing Nature of Gender in the 21st Century
Understanding gender identity is the theme of this event. The program will address gender identity issues including: sociological perspectives (implications for institutional policies and practices), linguistic changes, and most importantly, strategies for increasing our understanding and becoming better allies in our own communities.
The Speaker
Our speaker for this program will be Genny Beemyn, Ph.D. a transgender educator, author, speaker, and consultant. They are the director of the UMass Amherst Stonewall Center and the coordinator of Campus Pride’s Trans Policy Clearinghouse.
They have published and spoken extensively on the experiences and needs of trans college students, including writing some of the first articles on the topic in the 2000’s.
